Looking for a new fork...

Greetings,

I am sure that this question has been asked a million times before, but here goes...I am looking to put a suspension fork on my redline monocog. I am not wanting to spend more than $300 including installation. Less, if at all possible. I am wanting to buy from my LBS so I'll be paying retail. I dont wanna take a mail order fork to them for installation. I could probably install it myself, but I dont wanna screw up the cutting of the steerer tube. So I am a fairly small guy (5'7", 155-160 lbs) and mostly ride xc...no big drops or jumps. I dont need a ton of travel or superplush...just enough to keep my hands and shoulders from going numb after a half hour in the saddle. I dont really have any brand preferences. I have checked mtbr.com's reviews but they were of little help becuz there are a ton of reviews and the ones that I read had conflicting reports (i.e. the fork was great for one person while it was a piece of crap for another). I am also going to get recommendations from the LBS personnel, but I just wanted to get some opinions from other people as well. Thanx for any help...

Dave

pathtek,
I am also kinda in your position for a new fork. My budget it also around 300. I was looking at the Fox Vanilla 125 R for 350 from Jensonusa, its supossed to be veyr plush, only downside is the customer service at FOX is s***. But other tha that I was also looking at the Duke series by Rock Shox. The models with U-Turn do not come with lockout but have expandable travel which could be convenient. The dukes are meant to be like the SIDs but are a little more durable and therefore a little heavier. Good Luck!

I got a marzzochi mx comp with eta for $269. It has 105 mm of travel and the eta is great on climps. Great aggro xc fork

I just bought a Manitou Black Comp for a co-worker's son for $150 on eBay! There are deals out there, you just have to be patient! With the money he saved on the fork, I got him a Chris King Headset as well!

Thanks for the input, ya'll. I think I'm probably gonna go with a marzocchi mx of some sort...probably the comp since It's closer to the bottom end of my budget.

Oops, I meant to say Manitou, and I just bought it from him!

Sending out the m.o. today!

I'm putting it on the wife's bike (I think), I've got a neighbor friend who's been asking me to look around for a deal for him, but I think he wants a higher end fork! Who know, I'll tell him it's worht $300, but I'll take $200 and see what happens! Nah! I'm too nice and too honest for that!
