Keep in mind, its originally a 650$ bike. Super low end crankset (and that bashguard is .5 pounds), heavy cassette, X5, plus on things like tubes, I dont pay attention at all (I'm running 2.3-2.5 tubes because thats what was cheap). All those little things that add up, I dont really pay attention to.

I just got that exact same frame powdercoated (after stripping it of course) last week for my new bike. I got it for $50 many moons ago. A little heavy but I wanted a decent steel frame for the least amount of $$ possible.

Here's my old Kona.
The frame is stripped and up on the wall for the last year now.
Still riding those cranks tho.
Damn that was a hot bike. I had some bar ends and a flat bar around for those times when I had to really kick some ass:
By the way... that was the fork that used to look like this (long):
But I did some surgery on it:
And to all of you who thought I was going to kill myself on my modified fork; it worked very well and I believe there is a guy still riding that thing to this day.

Impressive. Your shops must be way better stocked than ours (although, probably 95% of their business is road bike related). None of the shops around here (other than performance) stock very many MTB parts.

As of 9:30pm Sunday night the fixed gear will be the primary ride(Dumping down snow by the wheelbarrow, expecting 8-12") and have no idea when everything will clear/dry.

Just finished rebuilding my bike... new drivetrain, wheels, accessories, etc... and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out. Everything feels so smooth, is very quiet, and will hopefully last longer than the low end parts is used to have (not that anything now on it is especially high quality).
More of an XC setup, but I hope to do some trail riding as well (and have done a little on this frame already). Next up for replacement is fork+frame+brakes, got a rockshox Recon air fork in the mail (got it for less than half price
) and I'll be looking for a decent hardtail frame which has disk brake mounts sometime this spring/summer.

6-8" of fresh snow on top of our just barely dry trails led me to some weight weenie pics. Give or take a half pound I figure with the crappy hanging scale. These are in their "daily driver" states.

I know the hole looks freshly dug, but it was there last week. Looks like a coyote digging for gophers-I would guess.
