risers ftw
My bike came with flats, didn't like em. I'm faster with risers because I'm more comfortable and my arms are opened wider allowing me to breathe better.

Were your brake finger actually lays on the brake lever at the bend where it should be. I raced with a flat bar last spring but it broke, I loved it. I managed to find a carbon riser for 5$ so I bought it. I think I'm faster in tight stuff with the flat bar.

I've never had that problem. What bars were you using to have that problem?

Here's my 2003 NRS 3. I've made a few mods over the years: Avid SD-7s with salmon Kool Stops, ODI lock-on grips, shortened stem 20mm, Rhyno Lytes with Velociraptors, Lizard Skin chainstay protector. Other than that it's stock, but I'd really like a new fork.

....but the point is a flat or riser will not make you faster.Just like you don't need a flat bar to have a nice XC bike.

I wasn't meaning faster all around, I meant in narrow twisty trail. It's more narrow, giving you more room in between the trees. I'm talking like a 1-1.5 foot wide trail with trees lining both sides, like we have here in north Texas.

But you can have short risers, and long flat bars? You're talking jibberish kid. Its not the height of the bar necessarily that will affect what you're saying, but more the width.
Oh and pyroguy - thats a nice build on your Hardrock. When you one day down the track upgrade to a new frame, it'll be a sweet build.

Indeed, indeed. I love my hardrock, but I realize there's much much better frames out there. I'm actually planning on riding this one till it breaks, unless I get a good deal that is. I'll have to find a frame that my fork's steer tube will fit because I don't know if I can bare to part with it...

Theres my 'fun' bike. Ill sort some pics of the race stuff later. Was in the middle of both fitting new components, and moving house, hence the mess and a few missing components (I have a front brake now!).

Lets try this again using links to the photos:
My mountain bikes and their stories are:
https://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...y_Slayer50.jpg
My 2006 Rocky Mountain Slayer 50, still stock. Meant to do some light freeriding with it but still haven't done much with it besides ride the Firelanes around here.
https://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...2173_small.jpg
My 2003 Specialized Rockhopper. Has about 13,000 miles on it. Upgrades: new wheels to allow disk brakes, Avid Mechanical Disk brakes (BB7's 160mm rotors), New cassette. Wore the orginal wheels and cassette out two years ago. I put a new chain on every 1000 to 1500 miles so the cranks are still original. The front fork is on its way out as it has some corrosion on one stantion and is starting to leak oil. A good bike/frame. It makes a good commuter/errand bike.
Since I bought the Slayer the Rockhopper is my dedicated commuter/wet weather bike. Will probably replace the front fork with a good rigid fork later this year.
When I was running 26x2.125 tires on it the knobs on the tires would hit the chain stays and the chain stays were starting to wear through. Considering that what the bike came with, I consider the width of the chainstays to be a slight design flaw. The stock wheels were also spec'd with 15G spokes, and the spokes on the read wheel started to break after a year. Thus started the upgrade process.

Mine... Gary Fisher Supercaliber OCLV
I'm in need of help trying to look for more information on this frame. I could only scrounge up a photograph on a bike blog with some info saying that this came out back in '94.
Any information is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
