I could use some good vibes right about now!
I'm really bummed and in a lot of pain right now. I was born with the flattest set of feet in the world but they never caused me any real trouble. They were just flat.
Well, a few years ago that started to change. What little arch I had in my left foot began to collapse, eventually deterioraing to the point that everytime I took a step I was driving bone straight down into the ground. That bone developed spurs and swelled to the point that it looked like there was a golf ball inside my foot. The ligaments that connected the bones in that part of my foot were also being abused by the constant pounding so that finally I couldn't stand it anymore and asked my doctor if there was any way to remedy the situation. As it turns out, there was.
Tuesday, I went into surgery for three hours. During that time my doctor cut out the old piece of deteriorated bone from my arch, installed bone grafts in the inner and outer edge of my foot to recreate a natural arch, installed some screws and plates to hold that stuff all together until it heals, and finally, he detached my left calf tendon from my foot and moved it higher up on my ankle to alleviate the strain that my collapsed arch was putting on it. So, I have incisions on the inner and outer edge of my foot and another right in the middle of my calf. At first I was told that I could place no weight on my foot for 6 weeks but I get the feeling it's going to be longer than that because the doc gave me a handicap parking permit that's good for 4 months.
Anyway, I'm taking Oxycodone for the pain but it isn't able to mask it all and it's making me light headed and weirding me out somewhat. So, if you wouldn't mind sending a good thought my way I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike

Sounds crappy dude, but it could be worse, you could have lost the ability to walk all together.
I also have very flat feet, and it is a real pain so I can atleast relate on that parts.
Healing vibes go out to ya, good luck.

Hope you get better soon. Just do what the doc says, sounds like something that could really be screwd up by trying to rush the recovery.

Hey, I pulled an awesome endo riding down a hill in the dark on monday and landed flat on my chest on a rock - cost: two broken ribs. I hope your recovery is a swift one as painkillers, surgery, and injury are no fun! Good luck! I'll send all the vibes I can.

Ive already dedicated my next ride to you mate ;
"Must make it-up-hill-for....mcoomer!"
Seriously though, hope you get better. Just remember to think positive thoughts, drink plenty of water and do exactly what the doc says. I couldn't imagine not riding my bike for that amount of time, but just hang in there and remember that you will ride again one day so there's no need to jeopodise your recovery trying.
Think positives! Now you got a genuine chance of being good at something you usually wouldn't be good at til your youngens send you to a nursing home 60 years from now
Get well soon

You're gonna be just fine. You just got out of surgery recently and of course through all the pain and medication, the people fussing over you, you are gonna feel helpless. But put it this way. The doctors felt that they can fix it so they did. It's just a matter of time to heal. And once you do, you will be more comfortable, be able to ride your bike longer and have a better quality of life!
Oooooooooo how exciting!!!
Enjoy your time to rest, heal up and make plans for what you are going to do once you are all done and ready! ((hugs))

Feel better. At least you're taking care of the problem. Make sure to listen to the doctors and don't force the recovery.

Good luck with the recovery - but definately take it easy! Feet/ankles do not heal quickly and are really easy to screw up. Expect a year before coming back up to 80%, 1.5 - 2 for 100% I know a few people who have had major feet/ankle surgey like that and this is what they've said.
The good news is that they all wondered what took them so long to pursue the solution. Good decision and speedy recovery!

Hope you heal up soon and the pain subsides. Mods, maybe you should open up the Wheelhot thread again. Sounds like Mike could benefit from some humor right now.
