Some have noticed that strip of tire on my saddle...
 

That strip of tire is functional, it is put on there by some downhillers for increased control of the bike when it is wet out.

The initial pictures had the zipties on, they were just holding the tire on while the epoxy cured. Then removed the zipties and put screws in to further secure it to the saddle.

That is just phase 1 of it, going to be putting two more smaller strips on the saddle as well.

As if it doen't hurt enough on a normal seat if you feet come off the pedals!

Seems like a sensible idea for jumping and downhilling. Won't see many xc riders doing it though.

So how did you place at mt snow this year?

During the times I've been on the saddle, I don't really notice the presence of the tire strip.

Will clean it eventually.

Purposely have it backwards.

Hmmm, what about coating the entire saddle in plasti-dip, then pressing a tire into it as it dried to make a pattern. Then the saddle would be grippy all over.

Or velcro shorts!

Plasti-dip isn't cost effective. I probably spent all of $2.00 on this project. The tire is obviously a used tire, and already had zipties and epoxy. I also hate Velcro.

he must have had buddies that armour-all'd his bike seat ... that's my best guess.. armour-all away with that bad boy on there.

I have an old school GT all plastic bike seat.. maybe I'll glue some semislicks on it for padding

It isn't for sitting it's used when off the saddle and cornering in wet conditions.

Only the "girly men" do. Kona doesn't sit. He floats. ;)

Care to elaborate a bit more Kona? I'm confused and interested on what it's for and how it helps. The only thing I can think of that it would be useful for would be to pinch the seat for a no-hander or the like.
