Confessions of an Uninspired Mountain Biker

I'll apollogize in advance for this disturbing post, but i need to get it off my chest. I have been having these desires lately. I don't feel like I am being untrue, but I still feel dirty. I want a cross bike. I really want a cross bike.

Get one, they are super fun. Once you have one, race it, it's super fun. After you are done racing, go drink beer, it's super fun.

uh oh man. before you know it, you'll be buying a road bike. before you know it, you'll be wearing a discovery channel jersey, riding a 5000 dollar madone, and riding zipp 404 clinchers as your training wheels. At 14 mph.

lets face it--you're doomed.

BMX is kindred with Mtb.

Honestly, I also see Cyclocross closer to MTB than to road bikes.

Pete has some great pics of Cyclocross racing. Below is one taken from his web page: https://www.petefagerlin.com/album.html

Hope you don't mind, Pete. I think you've posted this one here before.

The thing about CX racing, the mindset in particular, is that they look for racing efficiency. They don't see the need for extreme granny-gearing because if the hill is that steep, you're faster running it. In the pic above it looks like the guy figured it would be quicker to run that particular mud pit rather than try to power through it.

If you look right behind him you will see that he had to dismount regardless. Since he was already off of the bike he might as well run. Personally, I'm just amazed at how clean his bike is.

I actually noticed that there doesn't seem to be a speck of dirt on the bike.

Maybe he waxed his bike. We make fun of Sui for doing this but I think waxing would help out here.

Do it. Tis' better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.
(I confess, I own a C'dale roadie and a Trek 560 vintage roadie.)
