Frame Guards

Does anyone have any experience with the frame guards made by AJ's or the Ronnie Ring. I found a web site for AJ's but could not come up with a supplier for the Ronnie Ring.

go to home depot and find the vinyl tube section. get a 2ft shank or so and cut it down the middle... ziptie to down tube PRESTO CHANGE-O you have a cheap and half decent looking frame gaurd.

why do you call your post frame guards if you are planning to post bout protecting your BB, anyway since your title is frame guards, I use SONAX protectant spray. Its like a car wax for your bike. Its suppose to protect your frame from corrosion and It makes your frame shinier and make it looks like new

This one mounts on the BB spindle but the Ronnie Ring bolts to the Granny Ring.

AND since the bb goes through it you would have to find spacers to space out the left crank so that the crank center is not right favored.... and it would tweak your chainline.... seems like more wrok thn its worth to me... blech

Cut strips of tire tube and zip tie them around whatever part of the frame you want to protect.

yea, just don't really get the point of getting that. i mean, as long as your front derailleur is tuned right, you won't have any problems with the chain going over the smallest chainring... it must be for DHers...

So, basically from your post, you are looking for something like an inner bash guard? Something just to keep the chain from dropping off the inner chain ring?

There aren't going to be a whole lot of people running anything like that, but that doesn't mean you can't. Don't listen to the weight weenies unless you're a weight weenie. If its a problem that you see you need to fix, then get something to fix it.

You could also use a chain guide and drop to just one chain ring up front...

These 2 items are indeed called "frame guards"...they prevent chains from dropping to the inside and damaging the BB and chain stay. Everyone experiences this sooner or later. Sometimes it's caused by worn chain rings and sometimes a particular frame design causes it. The damage is most significant to the chain stay. Cross country frames with small clearances between the chain rings and chain stays are especially vulnerable.

Both AJ's and the Ronnie Ring have a write-up in this month's MBA. There doesn't seem to be a website for the Ronnie Ring, but you can call them at (480) 720-7900.

Thanks for a good question...it seems typical of forums like this that people find it necessary to flame you from their own arrogance and lack of experience.

Ronnie ring seems to do the job and looks cleaner. But then again, the right adjustment or not shifting under load will prevent that. Check the condition of your chain and cogs too. Replace worn components.

I can't believe I just made a post without joking. *sigh* This is not me. I need more coffee.

So this spray protects from chain damage, wheelhot?

You are worse than me. I am picky about my bikes but they are not immaculate.

Even with a properly adjusted front der chains still flop off during choppy descents. It's why they make chainguides. The ronnie looks like a simple alternative.
Blackspire and some other companies have had similar products out for a while.
