Kona Out of Bounds Hardtails and their Ilk?

Since I've given up on trying to anything with the huffy, I think I am going to buy a new bike this summer. I basically want an all arounder. I want it to be tough enough to handle a bit of urban, some trials, and still be light enough for some xc use with perhaps a wheelset change. Worst yet, I want it around $600 (sorry guys, road biking is still my true love).

I was looking at the Out of Bounds series hardtails that kona has. However, I have noticed that the frames from kona are quite on the pricey. Is there anything similar? I was looking at the KHS "rigid one" too, but it is also pricey. I'm not pickey as to steel or aluminum, a bad technique drop is going to hurt a bit regardless of frame material.

What else is out there in this price range?

P series is similar. The kona frames are expensive because they have beefed up headtube to support a dc and a re-enforced chainstay for those drops :)...The KHS rigid one is about as cheap as you can get around 150$ american for the frame. For a good freeride ht that is durable expect to pay minimum of 1000$ cdn (too lazy to convert it for ya). :)

Most of those ht's are urban/freeride.

How big do you plan on going? 2' of air or perhaps 20' of air. Depending on what you mean by "...doing anything with...", will depend on what type of ht you should be looking at.

You can get one of these for $550

what is it? I can see that its a kona. I was thinking that I would be doing a maximum of around 4 feet. If my skills progress any further, I think it might be worthwhile to get a dually. however, I am too chick**** at this point to do anythig bigger, but this is also compounded by the fact that I have been doing drops on a rigid huffy.

I can't read the name but it looks like a blast...

It should work for you.

cool. I suppose I'll have to look into that :D

BTW: POST 500!!!!!! I'm halfway to 1000!

500? Ah, I remeber those days........

Mael., mentioned the "P series" that Specialized bike that seems to fit you needs pretty well. Another bike to consider is the Haro Escape. They've got a rock solid frame and dress it with some quality parts. If and when I get another HT (I had a 2000 P.3 that I loved!), I'd either get a P.1 (SS, why not?) or the Haro.
