Max teeth on a short cage?

Can you use a Sram x.0 with a 34T cassette? A long time ago I had a short cage XT derailleur and it was great. I of course could not go big-big or it would lock up, but why would anyone do that (and that was with a 7 speed)?

Yes, a SRAM short cage can throw a 34T. You're chain was probably too short, so it couldn't go big-big.
