Need some advice on selling a bike!

heyy all, So I have a K2 Attack 1.0 year 2004 (I think) and I no longer have a use for it since I am converting to a roadie. Anyways I would like to sell the bike but I do not know what to sell it for and where to sell it (ebay, craigs list...) I reall could use some guidence. uhm the bike has been used only a fair amount of times. I have just put new pedals on it since the stock ones where crap. they are regular old pedals lol nothing really special about them. the back tire and tube have been replaced since the it blewout. The frame is in good condition minus some scratches from everyday use. I spent $500 on the bike and I would like to get a fairly decent amount for it because I would like to be able to get a fairly good used road bike. If you guys could tell me where I should sell it or trade it, and how much to ask for it I would be veryy glad.

Just highlight all the good parts about the bike. Like what you had upgraded onto it. Also, say "I am selling it because I have no need for it. I am going into road biking instead."

No problem. Post here when you sell it, and for how much.

Looks good, shipping is a bit high though. Check to see what shipping will cost using FedEx. Using FedEx shipping always runs me right around $35 - $45.

+1 but make sure they give you the standard rate. A normal bike box has the dimensions that are just on the edge of being oversized (at least for ups). they tried charging me nearly $100 vs the appropriate $23. I wipped out my handy box cutters, took an inch off the top of the box and taped the top tab back on- voila- $23!

Personally, I tend to run from high S&H- sometimes just from frustration.

Craigslist for sure--I'm supprised no one has commited on that. It's such an easy way to buy and sell.

I wish we had a craigslist for my area. :(

CL is a joke, nothing but a bunch of sheisters & clowns.

uphillbiker 02-15-07 07:17 AM

That depends. It's not like shopping Ebay, but for local commerce. Meet the sellers in person and see the product before doing business.

Big_knob 02-15-07 09:45 PM

Yeah i know it's not like Ebay or anything else (except for the local Flea Market advertiser paper) .
I put up several things for sale on CL before & the majority that showed were major sheisters & botom dredgers.

I think each service has its strengths. From what I've seen of CraigsList, epecially in smaller markets, is that it's well-suited to selling old, offbeat and lower-priced odds-and-ends to a local market. If you're looking for that semi-vintage hardtail frame to build your SS project, that's the place to go.

If you want to get every whacko on four continents to e-mail you scammy offers for your bike, put it on PinkBike.

If you want a serious trading environment where most buyers understand the buyer/seller protection advantages to a PayPal transaction, then ebay is the place.

CL isn't too bad in my area, hell you can even find drug dealers on CL!:D

Shmef 02-16-07 12:17 AM

CL is my fave. I score sweet shwag. I got a 70's Schwinn Continental for 20 bucks, fixed for less than 100...

Ebay... I hate it. I have been scammed on stuff... plus... shipping? Ew...
