track bike rider building fixed gear mtb needs wheel advice.
not for trails, i'm not looking to destroy trails and ruin the fun for others. more of an urban assault bike, if you will. i was looking for some inexpensive disc brake wheels to run in the winter and bad weather (using the disc brake hub to mount bolt-on fixed gear cogs). how would these wheels look to people who know more about mtbs than i?

i may also just lace a surly fixed mtb hub to a rhynolite, and spend a bit more money later to relace it and another front hub to velocity rims and build a pair of 26" deep v's.

i should add that one of my big questions is about the bombproofness. that's why i love the velocity rims. i have a pair on my track bike that i've done things to that you're never supposed to do to road rims (down stairs, cobblestone roads, bunnyhopping curbs and obstacles, etc)...and i've never had to true them more than twice a year.
anyway, yeah...bombproof, inexpensive wheels?

Hipster
May be more economical than you're looking for, but they're ultra cheap and they'll take a beating.

Out of the three wheels you listed the Funns are the strongest fallowed buy the Atom labs. Both of these wheels will probably be overkill, but if you don't mind the weight go for it!
The Cane Creeks are in a completely different category.

woah. maybe that's good. i may smell "rain/snow wheels" somewhere on that page. i do want nice wheels, but i can hold off a month or two and hand-build some wheels as long as i can trek through the ice and snow for a bit that'll give me the control of fixed and the stability of a wide knobby wheel.
hipster yourself.

the rhynolyte/deore combo will be fine unless you're doing drops over 4". I was doing chest height drops to flat on the same wheelset no prob. I figure riding fixed will limit the amount of air time you have, so it should be plenty sturdy with minimal upkeep.

4 inches? or four feet? cuz if your chest height is 4 inches.....
heh, but no...for the most part, i bunnyhop curbs and road debris if traffic's tight or if jumping onto/off of the curb gives me a shortcut, or an out in a sketchy situation.
