Is steal real? (Trek 820)

I really love the feel of my steel fixie. But, I haven't ridden a steel mountain bike on trails since 1992.

I am half tempted to buy this little number. Would you? I am slightly nervous about the 100mm fork on the 820 frame.

Price seems right.

Oops, excuse typo in title. I have always gotten steel/steal mixed up.

it's certainly not going to be anything high-end, but for 175 it's hard to pass up. what kind/level of trail riding are you looking at?

The frame isn't worthy of those upgrades. Only the three main tubes are chromoly. Offer him $150.

So what is the rest of the frame made of? Also, considered this as a way to pick up components and swap them over to the cheap steel nashbar frame.

To answer a previous question: I ride a lot of singletrack with BIG climbs and descent--small drops.

1020 steel.... about 1/3 the strength of cro-mo.
