Giant Boulder VS Boulder SE

I'm looking at getting one of these two bikes tomorrow. The se is $20 more I think. So, whats the difference?

I'll mainly just use this for riding around, but its possible I could go mtn biking with it.

The giant website says the Boulder is steel and the Boulder SE is aluminum with slightly better parts

Bit better fork, better rear derailer, alloy handlebar, crank and the frame. Probably worth the extra $.

About $20 pre sales tax.

At a summer camp I go to, they had a few boulders. They were horrible, the rims warped after a drop of a foot, and the deraileurs got all messed up in the spokes. If I were you I would go for the SE just because of my bad experiences with the boulder. You could maybe even save up for a better bike, what is the MSRP?

That's exactly the type of riding my adult daughter does; for which I helped her pick out a Boulder SE. I also intend on getting my wife one this year for the very same purpose - - she's wanting to get a bit more adventuresome off-road than her Specialized Expedition is suited for. The SE is worth the very few more dolllars IMO.

The rincon is a capable bike. A clear step up from the boulder.

Basically, we'll all encourage you to get the best bike you can afford, but if you want to settle, the boulder SE will be fine for a beginners bike.

Well you are talikng about "camp bikes". They spend all summer getting used and abused by kids with no idea what they are doing. We have some kids in our bike club who ride them with no problems.

Congrats, good choice!

Rincons are a soft spot of mine, my first mtn bike was a rincon.

The big advantage of the Rincon over the Boulders is the cassette rear wheel. The boulders both use a freewheel. With the cassette(freehub) hub you get a wider bearing spacing and a more durable hub.
The Rincons hold up well, we offer a year of free adjustment and I never see them in for problems.

Good choice on the Rincon, I just got my GF one as well. A little late, but another difference, I dont think the Boulder has double wall rims like the SE, but I could be wrong. Ive never worked on one.
