Carbon bars
I've been doing a little more research and I'm thinking 'bout giving carbon a try.
I'm considering putting them on my XLT for XC/small drops/small jumps. The only reason I would want them is to save some weight. Right now I'm running Easton EA70 Hi Rise bars that weigh around 250g.
Interested in the durability of:
RF Next SL
Easton EC70 Hi Rise
Other light/tough bars?

I assume that everyone is going to post that "oh, carbon snaps when you go off a jump", just remember, most people have heard of carbon bars breaking but few have actually broken them.
I run carbon bars.
I run carbon bars.

I have Profile XC carbarn bars that a friend gave to me. I wasn't sure at first but so far, so good. However, that is with only three rides on them so I have no reliability yet.

actually, no one really seems to know fersure. cane creek sez easton gives them a green light with their carbon bars but even specialized reps can't give me a definite answer. i know i can use a specialized carbon bar end with an aluminum expander plug but i'm not sure if that same plug will work with the cc's? perhaps a small section of wood dowel?
anyway, just curious if you used plugs on your bars with those bar ends?
thanx

I ended up going with the Gravity DH. It's very stiff and has held up fine for going on two weeks now.

hmm? it looks like a piece of plastic was used 'inside' of the carbon bar? did you mount them or have the wrench guy at the LBS do it?
i'm not so much worried about voiding the warranty as i am about cracking the end of the bar. the cane creek ergo's integrate into their lock-ons, but without actually mounting them i don't know how much clamping force would be exerted on the end of the bar? oh well.
thanks for taking the pic!

yes, it's like a reinforcing piece they put in the bar. the hole is hard to judge in that photo but it's quite small (I should put a pencil in there to give you an idea) so that plastic piece gives quite a bit. I mounted the bars myself and the bar ends. I didn't crank down on them hard enough to try crushing them but they are tight enough that the bar ends have never moved on me. I actually took them off last night to check if there was any sign of cracks and it loosk clean.

I ran the Ritcey WCS O/S Carbon bars-have had no problems. They are also re-inforced for bar-ends use. These bars are stiff, light and strong.
