Norco vs. Kona Dirt Jumpers
I'm lookin into buying a new dirt jumper when I get the money together and I'm wonderin if anyone has any suggestions. My nearest retailer sells both Kona and Norco so I get the same warranty. I have an 06 Hoss so I'm fairly happy with the Kona brand. I'm lookin to spend a max of 1100 dollars cdn.

go ride everything from both companies that fits your budget. buy whichever fits/feels the best. within similar pricepoints, build specs will be similar as well.

Both lines are very solid, but I would much prefer a Specialized P series bike.

I vote the norco two 50 based solely on the fact that it's steel and 200 over your budget (to contribute the least to this thread as possible).
I will recommend to go out, ride them all and get the one which fits best.

yeah i have a norco 416 reynolds and its pretty good. headtube is a little steep, but not to bad...
the two50 is good, and if this is going to be a pure dirt jumper, then ss is a good way to lose some of the exta pounds thats djers all have.
you need to make sure that your getting a dirt jumper. norco and kona both make bikes that are almost identical in their spec, frame style and price. and they all suck. all of those norco/kona/devinci north shore hardtail bikes are ****. they are not dirt jumpers. theyre the bikes that no one can sell because
i gotta agree with freeridin' that specialized is the way to go. find a bike store that carries them. you live on the wet coast so it shouldnt be a problem. the 07s are sick, good spec and they look amazing. theyve got steel, aluminum, ss and geared. personally, i think a steel singlespeed would be the best choice for a djer, but to each their own.

I agree, The Specialized P Series, looks very nice like a P1 for $700. P2 for $1100.

Seriously, its just stupid. Find a lot of randoms come in asking non specific questions but this guy knew what he wanted. I don't know about scrub, but that how I feel about it, if you dont like the brands I am looking at (pretending to be op) then leave your opinion at the door.

The OP never stated it had to be a Norco or a Kona. I was simply suggesting that maybe it would be worth it to drive the extra 30 minutes to take a look a Specialized.

agreed with freeridin'. though norco and kona are the closest, i think you will be far happier with a p.1 or even p.2, which is only 1100 MSRP. p.2 cromo is like a p1.5 and is definetely worth the cromo frame if you want steel and to spend a little less money.

Why the lovefest for specialized anyway? I guess i've just never understood it.
I would lean towards the kona over the norco (and especially over the p bikes, i personally am not a fan of them). There are also lots of other great DJ frames out there and you might consider asking around/reading on another forum that is more oriented to DJing. I check in here from time to time and find alot more XC oriented talk (not to say that there aren't those here that do know there stuff).

Oh, so the next time someone asks which bike they should buy CCM or NEXT, your not going to tell them that theyre garbage? of course you not, that would be hypocritical...

Heh. Hey, you're the one that started in with the name calling first. Not sure why. Are you feeling insecure about something? You seem to be awfully defensive about stuff on a net message board. Some people are way too uptight.
The OP asked about two brands, from his nearest shop. The fact that he didn't mention any other brands, or shops, I take to mean he is buying from the shop mentioned.

Kona and Norco are more similar to mtbike in geometry (ok I am talking a couple of years ago) but maybe the OP mentioned the bikes he did because they fit, available or he might like them more

well my dealer also has the best warranty on Vancouver Island where any repairs and tune ups are free for one year. Also, not many other quality places specialize in great bikes, some Rocky Mountains and Brodies and the odd Specialized but other than that my options are sort of limited.
