Planning MTB spring break to...

... destination unknown. I was hoping I could get some input from everyone here about some possibilities.

I want to go somewhere within a one day drive from Western Mass. Preferably in a southerly direction to get away from the snow. Dates are from March 10-18. I'll be taking my hardtail and possibly my track bike.

I like super fast singletrack but also do stunts and some jumps. I tend to gravitate towards more technical (rocky rooty) trails in either an ascending or descending fashion. More rocks, the better. Track bike is for messing around in an urban setting (unless I can find a velodrome).

I don't mind riding one day and then driving to another nearby location the next. I can sleep in my truck or a cheap motel. Whatever suits the situation. May bring a friend, but will probably have scheduling conflicts.

A general area I was thinking about is from VA to TN to GA or anything in between. Any thoughts?

East tenn has some great trails to ride and the hotels are cheap. look up Mountain Biking in the Cumberland Gap. I have ridden out there some and loved the area. Your only problem might be that the trails are full of thorns and poison ivy if you fall. I grewup in west tenn and drove over there a lot but have not been in years and can't remmeber the name of the trails im sorry. Shouldn't be that hard to find online.

On my list (written in crayon).

Looking for 20+ mile days. How extensive are the trails there?

There is a lifetime's worth of tasty riding within the million plus acres of the Pisgah National Forest alone. Check the NC board at mtbr - there are some excellent trail resources therein.

the c&o canal outside of washington dc is pretty. very flat and straight though, probably not the kind of tech stuff you're looking for. still, i hear there are some good trails up by harper's ferry wv, so maybe you could use the c&o as a connector.

i'm not primarily a mountain biker, if you swing through washington dc i could show you a couple spots.
