Schwinn S[9six].20
Hi I am trying to restore an old Schwinn S[9six].20 and I am trying to remove the bearings pressed into the frame at the swing arm pivot point so that I can have the frame powdercoated. They I have tried a punch that I can slide through one bearing and reach the back of another and a hammer but they still will not budge. Does anyone have any tricks to remove them. I also am wondering if anyone has the bearing number so that I can replace the bearings as I think that they will be destroyed trying to get them out of the frame. They are kind of rough anyway so they should be replaced. I love this frame and really want to have it redone and brought back to its former glory. Thanks.

Can't help you, sorry, but you should post your question in the Mechanics forum.

If that didn't work, I would hit it harder.
If that didn't work, I would get a bigger hammer.
If that didn't work, I would disassemble the bearing in situ and carefully grind a slot on the inside of the outer race with a dremel until I got enough relief for the punch / hammer method to succeed.

Thanks Gastro I never thought about using a dremel to notch the outer bearing race and let it compress alittle bit to help get them out. Now if I can just get the bearing number form someone so that I can assure that I can get replacements once I completely destroy the originals. Any one ever replace them and remember the number on the bearings. Thanks.
