Anyone ever done this? I was looking at some of their hard tail frames with the XT/Avid Disk kit, and perhaps marzocchi fork. This seems great because I can pick out the components I want to build it from, but I would have to buy it with out riding it. Also they dont seem to have a huge selection of frames. And many of them are only available in odd sizes. If you have done this how did it work out for you? Is this a good idea?

yep, it's a good idea, fair prices and the guys at Jensen know their stuff. If they don't have the frame or the size frame that you want, just buy the build kit from them and pick up a frame elsewhere.

when you say "pick up a fram elsewhere" are there any good suppliers of frames? Other than perhaps just haunting e-bay?

Depends what kind of frame you're looking for. There are great deals around. I know nashbar has a heavy steel frame for almost nothing right now

I was just asking about places that have a good selection. I would like to find a good aluminum hard tail frame that is compatible with disks. I did see that nashbar has one, but only one. Jensenusa also dosnt apear to have the same deals on their build kits if you buy them without buying a frame from them.

Go buy a current issue of MBA (Mountain Bike Action), they have the most advertisements for Mail-Order companies. A $5.00 investment will save you big bucks, plus you get a decent magazine to boot!

Im in acton, But my parrents live out by pitsfield so I drive through your neck of the woods a lot.

You should ride to pittsfield, I ride from Palmer to Adams often, 74 miles up route 9 takes me 4 hours and 15 minutes, nice scenery and desolate roadway.

I try to avoid riding any roads if possible, and that would be a long ways in the woods.

Don't recall if it was Jensen, Nashbar or Supergo that sent me a catalog last week with new Jamis Dragon HT frames for $399. Komodo was $269. The Dragon is an 853 frame. I almost bought a Dragon to put on the shelf as it is a great frame. They had all the sizes listed.

There are also some reviews on his frames on MTBR. I just got mine this week and the paint job is very will done. I think the frames are made in China if it matters to you. I got it because I wanted to build a bike from scratch and had a GT I-drive that was not getting ridden so I am swapping parts. This has been keeping up late at night definatley been a fun expierence.

wow we are really draging up some history here arnt we. I started this thread in May!! Anyway since this thread was posted, I bought a 2002 giant NRS frame. I have a marzocchi MX Pro fork on it. I have RF cranks and BB. Laser V saddle. Avid speed dial levers. all XT shifters, derailures, casette, chain. And the rest of it is still crap from my old bike. So for next season I need wheels and breaks. Im looking at either XT disk or Hope XC disk hubs. And mavic XM321 rims. And a set of avid mechs to stop it. Then I should be done.

At Jenson's, consider the Cove line.

They are hardcore "Shore bikes" designed and made in B.C., Canada so they're designed to take a pounding.

If you order from Cove directly, you'll get a wider selection of colors and variations not widely advertised such as "under top tube" cable routing, disk specific frames, and matte black color finishes, etc.

I can second the Cove recommendation. I just put together a Cove "Handjob" hardtail with RaceFace/Sram 9.0/Avid Discs/Mavic 223's etc... It's the best bike I've ever ridden. The whole build was about $1500 (I did it myself).
