Lenosky and Ebbett Building Dirt Jumps in NYC. (VIDEO ADDED)

With so many threads about building secret dirt jumps, I just wanted to share what can happen if you work hard with the city to build something the entire community can enjoy:

Before:

After:

THE BIG PICTURE

Big Props to our builders and ride partners, Jeff Lenosky and Kyle Ebbett

Video of them testing out the big track:

VIDEO

Official opening is May 19, kicked off with a XC race. Now, thanks to the community, NYC parks department, and the IMBA, New York has legal XC, FR, and DJ trails free for everyone.

All pics and video shot by NYCMTB members and supporters of the highbridge park project.

Have you seen the price of NYC real estate?. They likely sold the property rights to the shantytown and bought private islands in the carribean.

Hey FreeRidin', did you get the IMBA to help support you guys? It sounds like the city is supporting the idea. Are they funding you too? Dirt is really expensive by the 100s of tons.

The NY crew was awarded a grant of ~100k, and a good chunk of that was spent in dirt.

The whole concept was just introduced a few days ago, so we are in the very first stages. Hopefully the city will give it's approval soon.
The plan is that CAMBr West will do the funding, it may take a while to get all the required funding but eventually we should have a killer park.

I wasn't part of the early inception of the NYC park (or much of it at all except for some trailwork), but it seems like it's a more powerful message to the city if the community is backed by an international trail advocacy program with a very, very successful track record. Plus, you get to hang out with some out of town pros which is always fun.

Very nice, congratulations - I get a feeling of satisfaction whenever I visit my local city sanctioned spot. A couple old pics:

What am I looking at? What's all that orange stuff? Where are all the crackheads and junkies?
Those look so nice. Very wide open too. I miss the South so much sometimes. The tracks here are really tight so you have to ride by memory once you get up to speed.

How are things as far as maintianence and keeping people off the jumps when wet?

Video fixed btw.

When I rode the Highbridge trails a few months ago, the most hilarious thing I saw was the sheer number of pants littering the trail. Made me laugh/shudder at the stories behind people leaving their pants behind.
