Thomson seatpost help.
 

Got me a Thomson today.:D :p

Thomson says their post is capable of 17 degrees of tilt in either direct. I'm trying to get my seat to tilt backward. The front screw is maxed out while the back screw is bottomed out, but the seat is level. Do I need to flip the top plate that says "front", around? I would just try it but it is a b#%ch to get your fingers all up in there.:o

Can you post a pic? You must have a pretty vertical seat tube. Ya know...to switch it around...if it's hard to get to, why not just take the saddle off first, switch it, and put 'er back together. See if that works.

just wondering... are there any other advantages to having a "setback thompson" seatpost besides the fact that its meant to increase the distance between the seat and the handlebars?

When the saddle and post are on the bike the saddle is tilted back...but I want more! Check my post in post your rigs for a pic.

To switch 'er around of coarse I would take the saddle off, it's just hard to get the top plate in and out of the rails along with holding the 2 barrel bolts.

Everything is completely symmetrical, besides the top plate that says "front" on it.

More backwards tilt.:)

It's basically the same thing as an Easton EC90 "offset" seatpost. Instead of using an offset clamp, they offset the tube. In their experience, it makes for a stronger unit. I'm happy with my unit. Sure it's bent, but it's very stiff!:D

The offset clamp setup is also heavier than the regular clamp and bent tube.
According to Thomson.

The farther your seat goes behind your BB the more you engange your glutes and not your quads. Better for long rides, not as good for short power bursts (that come from quads).

At least that's what I've noticed. I don't like the setback though, personally.

Is the indicator on the top plate on the same side as the degree scale on the main part of the post? If not and the top plate does have the front facing forward, spin your post around and swap the top plate around.

I had the same problem and it drove me squirrel nut bonkers until I flipeped the clamp assembly. It looks totally symmetrical but it's not machined that way.

And yea, it's a PITA to get your hands all up in there to align all the hardware, but once you have it set, you'll never really have to touch it again.

Just flipped the top plate, all is good. It wouldn't be so baffling if they didn't write "front" on that plate.
