Thinking of SPECIALIZED GROUND CONTROL FSR
 

Anyone riden it before ? have an opinion?

What year?

What Model FSR? There are many different ones. There is the XC, the Rockhopper, the older FSRs had expert, comp, pro....etc.

Do you have a picture of it?

Regardless, the Horst 4-bar linkage suspension design that Specialized uses is IMO one of the best, if not THE best design. It's fully active, meaning it works regardless of pedalling, braking, coasting...etc.

It has minimal amount of pedal induced bobbing, which can be negated with a smooth pedal stroke or a lock-out on the rear shock.

I feel you can't go wrong with a FSR design.

That's about a '97 model.

Although a great bike, it's still 6 years old. That model does have the MAX backbone frame which is definately a sweet bike.

Most other components look stock. The fork looks like a Manitou FS-Ti, I had one of those on my FSR. I had a '98 Model FSR Extreme. Same bike, but my frame was tubular pieces welded together as opposed to the monocoque like this one.

Definately a sweet bike, but remember the age. Is it local or eBay? Ask if there is any slop in the rear end. The rear linkages were bushings, not bearings like current models and they tended to wear out. I don't know if you can still get replacements from Specialized.

How much are they asking? I wouldn't pay more than $500 depending on parts, probably less if all stock.

It's a good bike, and if the rear isn't sloppy, I'd consider it as it's worthy of many upgrades.

Heck, if you decide not to buy it, let me know, I may as I love this frame!

If you want the same design, but a newer bike, the shop down in North Port has a FSR for sale. Brand new, old stock, it's either a '99 or a '00. It's bottom of the line, but brand new. I'm sure the old guy down there is willing to deal on it.

Like I said, I wouldn't bid more that $500, maybe $600 due to the XT/XTR components.

Ganja, I think a 19" would be too big for you. What is your inseam, that's a more critical measurement.

Lean against a wall with feet shoulder width apart. Stick a book in your crotch and press it tight agains your crotch and the wall. Have your girlfriend or very good friend measure the distance from the floor to the top edge of the book.

That'll be your inseam.

You've got long legs!!!! I'm 6'0", but only have a 30.5" inseam (I'm short legged/long torsoed)

You could probably ride the 19", but you'd have to swap out the stem for a shorter one!

Personally, due to my BMX background, I like a smaller frame than I should be riding. I should ride a Large, but stick with a medium.

Does this look like the FSR in North Port ? I was looking around on the internet and saw this pic. The components are Shimano XT, with what looks like Rudy Rock Shox forks. Is this one better or worse as far as components go compared with the North Port FSR?

That's pretty much it! Except I think the wheels were all black! Maybe a newer model.

Like I said, I don't know what he's asking, but it's been in his shop for a LONG LONG time. It's probably about the most expensive bike in his shop as well. If you took him CASH, I'm sure he'd make you a deal!

How would this quote regarding RockShox Judy TT Long Travel 80/100mm forks below affect me? I am 145lbs.
"The seals are good it has some bounce on the top end but I have yet to bottom it out and I weigh 200 lbs. But then again I bought the bike when I weighed 180 so has some bob on the climbs and hammering."

I have a 98 FSR Comp with Judy XL's, and XT components. Also has the
eggplant colored chamelion(color changing) frame. The bike has been babied, and not ridden more than 10-15 times. I spend more time on my car these days...does anyone know if I can get $800 for it? Great condition!

Its a 2001 Specialized FSR Enduro sport, Fox Float Air Shock, RockShox Judy TT Long Travel 80/100mm, Xt Derailur, XTR Brak Pods w/ LX Dear rapid fire shifters, Cane Creek Head Set, Sun Ringle Lite Red Anodized Rims, WTB VolciRaptor treads, Ritchey Post, Specialized Body Geometry Seat.

This is their XC model with a bit more travel, got very good reviews when if first came out. This design was copied by many other companies, and "imitation is the greatest form of flattery".

This is a good "All Day" bike, more racing geometry, (quicker handling) and from the looks a pretty good set-up.

According to the Specialized website, it means "Future Shock, Rear"

Nice frame, and strong too, but tiny travel. DH frame with XC travel... weird!
