Big Ole' Noob
Hey guys,
I have been wanting to get back into cycling for a couple weeks now. I haven't ridden since i was in my teens, and now being 24, i'd like to get back into it for some fun, and to get in shape. That being said, i'm not sure what to look for as far as a starter bike. My price range is <$400, and i'm alright with buying used if i'd get more for my money. I'm 6'7" which proved difficult to find a road bike in my price range. What is the sizing like on MTBs?
Any help is appreciated.

the size shouldnt change the price...im 6'7 and i just bought a bike in december....what kind of bike riding did you do in your teens? becuase i was in the same position as you and i rode bmx before i bought this bike...that being said, i have always been comfortable on a smaller bike becuase of the small bmx bike...i ended up buying a 21 i think...just becuase i like the feeling of a smaller bike flying through trees instead of a bus that i have to hang on to...less that 400 is pretty low...your best bet is to either find a last year model or go on ebay and get a used one...good luck let us know what u go with

i really dont see how you fit on a 21". i was on a 23" and felt cramped as all get out. That aside, what should i look for used? i dont want to spend a small mint because well, i dont really have a lot of time to ride. I want something that i can do some weekending.
My "past" experience is on a huffy mtn bike riding on the street and basic wood/trail stuff. So basically no past. thanks for any help.

we've got a rail to trail conversion that i'd do some riding on, but i'd also like to be able to do some off road trails etc. There are some good trails in meridian, ms and i want somethign than can handle that, but maybe another set of wheels with some "slicks" for the paved bike path.

yea i would go with a decent hartail, you done need anything better...as long as your not bombing cliffs and that sorta thing your bike will be ok...they always make new pats you know? you can always upgrade the bike towhat you want, just make sure your frame is good, then build it up from there

Alrighty,
Supra, thanks for your help with this. From talking with some guys at several LBSs i've decided to go with the Hardrock Sport 24". 389 isn't a bad price, and i think i'll like it.
Peace.

Be careful with that fork, It's EXTREMELY stiff, and I don't know how well it will be off-road on trails.
