Jamis Dakota Project Build

Still waiting for the headset before I get started. I'm going to be pulling most of the parts off my other bike so I'd like to put everything together all at once.

Specs:

LX Crank / M540 Pedals
LX Front & Rear Der
LX Cassette
Sram 9 spd chain
XT shifters
Avid Speed Dial levers & SD7 V's (Maybe BB7's...)
Easton EA70 Stem
ODI Grips
7 year old SDG saddle and Bontrager Race post
Marzocchi MX Comp ETA/TAS
Cane Creek S2 Headset
Mavic CrossRide Wheels
Panaracer Dart / Smoke 2.1's

OK, now it's build time! Finally got headset in the mail. Take a look at my temporarily messy workshop:

My variation of homemade headset press. This worked VERY well. I used 2.5 lb weights for a secure and well distributed platform and put a layer of duct tape on surface to prevent slippage and scratching:

Bottom bracket install was easy with $9 Nashbar BB tool. How in the heck do you guess torque...

Forte TerraMax wheelset on sale at Performance for $109. Works with V's and disc. Quality appears EXCELLENT for the price. Ask me again in 1,000 mi.:

Finished the build last night at 11:30 pm. On the trains at 7:00 am today. First impression very positive. The new LX crank feels much sturdier than my 5 year old LX crank.

Wow you rode your bike on the trains. I've never tried that, is it fun?
But seriously, looks like a fun bike.

Yeah, why go outside on the singletrack when you can push your way through morning rush hour commuters

Nothing can replace the GT. I love that bike. I put Ritchey Tom Slicks on the GT and rebuilt it with what I have left of it's original 8 speed drivetrain and other original parts. It had a Judy XC fork that I have dialed down to it's minumum travel rebuilt with a "heavy weight" spring. Not as good for trails, but nice around town.
