Should i get a gary fisher tassajara disc or a trek 6500? Im going to start doing some cross country racing this year and i want a bike thats good and lite.Wich one of these should i get and wich one is lighter?

I just got my GF Tassajara yesterday. I rode both of these bikes and I personally liked the GF. The guy at the LBS also suggested I get the GF over the trek. I rode the bike almost 25 miles yesterday and loved it. Im also riding in a XC race next weekend.

Neither one of these bikes are going to be considered "light" in the racing world, so you may as well forget that. They are probably at minimum, 6 lbs heavier than a light XC bike. With that said, i have a Trek 6000 that is the same frame as the 6500. I really love it, and it is a lot faster than my Trek 4300's.

I wasn't concerned to much about weight. I'm guessing that they are both pretty much the same weight because they both have nearly identical components and similar frames.

Test ride both them. it ill quickly become apparent which one you like better.
BTW, my 7 year old Tassajara is still rockin'! Great bike for the money.
