Me and a buddy are talking up a trip this Summer, mountain biking would be the reason of course. We are tryng to think of a good location, the first place that comes to mind is Tsali NC, never riden there but its about 8 hours away. The thing is that I have never been out west and would love to go that direction but Moab is about 1300 miles or 20 hours away.

Any suggestions?

Tsali would be a good weekend trip for you. The trails are fast and flowing, if not particularly technically demanding, and all the Tsali trails can easily be ridden in two days. If you're still feeling frisky after that, I would highly recommend pushing on to the East to catch a day or two in Dupont/Pisgah.

I hear Moab is pretty neat also, but to my shame, I have never ridden there.
