Bontrager self-sealing tubes suck

I bought a bontrager self sealing mtb tube about 2 weeks ago because they didnt have the regular spec. tubes i buy...

I thought as they were self sealing I needn't carry spares. How wrong I was.

Ssssss...... and green gloop fizzing out of my tyre all over the trail. Definitely did not reseal the puncture. Useless.
Walked 3 miles in mtb shoes to train station and got a train home. Thankyou bontrager. Any chance I can get a refund here or did I do something wrong?

You didn't really think they were 100% garanteed to seal every hole ever, did you?

Always carry a spare.

Easy biking rules to avoid being SOL:

1. Always carry a spare tube and pump. Some flats can not be patched.

2. Always carry an extra Power Link & multi-tool w/ chain tool.

3. Always carry cell phone and credit card.

Breaking these rules will result in either a long walk in your spd shoes or hitching a ride with a "friendly" trucker named "Bubba".

I guess that's good to hear or not ? I'd considered such tubes,Imay or may not try them. I haven't had flats lately so much, there was a time though... I DO like my Specialized Armidillos, so far, I reckon the jury's still out on them too.

Hate to say it but it is not the tubes that Suck- It is the Bontrager name that has been attached to it. Bontrager quality is not that good, and neither are the parts. I am afraid that if it has the bontrager name on it- I do not buy it.

Sorry to hear about your situation and I just went tubeless  but could not use the Jones XC tire because they wouldn't "stretch" over the rim reasonably. It took 2 guys at the LBS so I went with Continental Explorers and the Super Juice from Bontrager but I have not had a flat. I really doubt the Juice can seal a big hole like Stan's is supposed to. I really like the Conties but I keep my spare handy and will be ready if the Juice just leaks all over the ground.

It's not Bontrager that sucks, it's the slime they put in the tube.

yeh I know, I was nieve (sp?) I had my phone and money but it was evening and everything was closed, and any of the people who could have picked me up were out of the country. trust me I've learnt my lesson!

Go tubeless, and use Stans sealant. Since I've used this set-up (many years now)- I'VE NEVER HAD A FLAT TIRE ... NEVER! As a bonus, you can run very low tire pressures when the going is muddy/slick. Having stated that - I STILL CARRY A TUBE. I've not had to use it yet, but it's nice to know it's there.

... Brad
