    Need help buying a bike

I want a mountain bike with front suspension and a hard tail. disc brakes and lock-out suspension are a plus. i'm willing to buy a used bike if i can get it for under a thousand bucks. I am currently living in wisconsin, but i want a model that i can take back to my homestate of colorado and bike around without any difficulties.

I have been to a few local bike stores, but i wanted to get the straight dope from you guys before deciding. can anyone suggest a few different bikes i should be looking at?

I ride a 15 inch frame so i would need a bike that comes in that size.

    thanks for your help!

(a few salesmen have told me to go with a female model, is there any advantage to that? (i am a girl))

    here's an example...

women's specific design bikes usually have shorter top tube lengths, narrower bars, thinner grips and smaller brake levers, and a larger seat to cater to the female's body design. My GF has a men's 16" though , and it fits her fine
    Why is going slower harder?
