Unfortunately I've run over my share of snakes... as I am rolling up on them I'm thinking "log jump" and then too late, the log moves. I hope the snakes are OK.

Thankfully have not hit anything else. Almost hit a deer that jumped out in front of me but was able to turn the wheel and it went one way and I another, into the trees but we were both OK.

Going back to snakes, on one of my docent beginner rides, one of the young kids was up ahead and another docent started to chase him down. At the same time a gopher snake came out across the road, somehow ended up in his wheel, spun around once and was tossed out the other side. The rider was off the bike just that quickly. I think the snake was OK and after that we had no trouble keeping the young feller back with us old folks.

I never figured I'd run over something out on my trails. (the fact that they surround a nice sized lake never occurred to me...) But I'm tearin through the last tenth of a mile on the trail and sure enough, there's michaelangelo, crawling along the right side of the trail!!!

I thought the coincidence was quite ironic.

BCI Pam... LOG jump and it MOVES?! Dude..... Big snakes!

Snakes on a Singletrack... think samuel jackson would do a sequel?

Twice, sort of. I saw a rattler with a broken back writhing on the pavement. I went back and rolled over its head to put it out of its' suffering. Nearby I told a man I would not swerve on the icy roads to avoid his tiny yap dogs if they got in front of me again.

I have road up on a turkey before it FLEW off .. that was the goofiest looking thing I have seen. Most flying animals are very graceful, but a turkey is just weird.

The first time i hit an animal was a rabbit during a night ride. I guess deer arent the only ones that stand still when they are shined with a very bright light. This one hobbled away, so im hoping that it fully recovered. On the other hand the rabbit that completely ran into my wheel today was not soo lucky. I came around a bend and the rabbit just ran straight into my wheel, heard some crunching sounds that should not be coming out of an animal, i didnt stop to help the poor thing, out of fear of what i might find, but my guess is that he is a goner.

I ride mostly in the state park trails at a local lake. Its like wild kingdom there(squirrel, rabbit, fox, coyote, deer, raccoon etc.) I came within an ace of plowing a skunk parked right beside the trail. Lucky for him, and especially me, he didn't make any sudden moves and the incident went off as a "near miss".

Last week I was flying down a hill and a squirrel decides to run along infront of my tire.. I kept lightly pressing my brakes to keep from running it over the whole way down.. I was literally inches away from taking him/her out.

Also what are you supposed to do about rattlesnakes... I don't exactly want to stop infront of one or pound my breaks.. is it best to just run them over?

After the fires our trails were infested with mice, I made it a game to run the little bastards down. Also on a night ride back in 2005 I ran into the side of a deer.
