Help deciding on a bike for DH.

For the last 2 years i have owned a Brodie Brat hardtail, i have allways wantred to get into DH racing, i figure its time for me to upgrade to a bike that will be able to handle it. (obviously the hardtail wont). MY price range would be up to 3000$. I have looked into the Cannondale Gemini and Perpitrator. But 3000 is getting up there for me.. any suggfestions on what bike would be good, or any tips about getting into DH racing would be great.

Pains me to say this, as I'm not a huge Kona fan, but a used Kona Stinky (Dee-Lux, Primo, Nine or whatever) would be a good way to entry-level yourself into racing.
