Worth it to upgrade older hardtail?

I have an older univega 602s, and am just getting back into riding. The bike has a rock shox quadra 5 which really sucks and needs to be upgraded. It seems to be hard to find forks with a 1" steer tube these days. Do you guys have any recomendations, or should I just ride it like this for a while, and buy a new bike later?

I'd buy a new bike. The Univega isn't a bad bike, but it will be cheaper to just buy a new one instead of upgrading all the parts. Then you can keep the 'vega for a beater, or convert it to SS!

Yeah, I think I'm coming to that conclusion too.
