Don't go above 130mm travel... Wait for more replies though.

If I were you I'd simply stick to the bike as is other than pedals, which you've already done. After that only replace bits as they break or wear out.

Even if you were to change the fork, I would stick with 100mm travel as that's what the frame's geometry is designed for. Try the RST for a while, you may find it works very well for you. Save your money and just enjoy the bike. Later on you can switch out parts but don't be in a hurry to do so.

I have seen this posted a lot but have never seen anyone explain why this would be bad.

Think about levers and moment of force.

First off the more travel you put on a frame the more stress there is on the headtube. Another thing is that with longer travel forks they are themselves longer (common sense really) and by putting this longer fork on your bike it will drastically change the geometry for your bike by raising the front end.

And to the OP I would stick with 130mm max! But as already stated ride it as is and replace once parts break.

Consider high school geometry and physics, too.

any other advice/comments are always welcome!
What shock comes with it? Make sure you set it correctly otherwise you can run into problems of it sticking. Follow the sag settings your manual recommends. If you have no manual you can probably find it from the manufacturer's web site.
