I'm rebuilding my trusty '01 Rockhopper and, as often happens with these projects, I've ended up replacing more components than I initially thought I would. It's just more fun to work with new stuff as I rebuild.

I've ordered a Reba Race fork because reviews are generally positive, and I like its relatively light weight for the price. I've started wondering if the fork will be "too good" for the older Rockhopper frame, however. Will I end up with a decent bike, or should I consider something like the Reynolds 853 Nashbar frame? I'd like to build the Rockhopper frame with the knowledge that I can always switch to a newer frame if I break it or something. I'm basically just curious if I'll end up with something worthwhile or if I should switch to a different frame now.

If you like the frame then I say go ahead and put the components you want on it. If you decide later you want a better or more comfortable frame then you have all the components you need to build it up. It's not like you are putting the parts on an old beat down Huffy or something. Good luck and post some pics when it is done.

I have an 06 rockhopper comp disk. The only stock parts are the seat and quick release seat post clamp. I'm thinking of keeping the seat post clamp just to say it's still a stock rockhopper.

I personally like the way the frame feels, but then again I suck so who really knows. I might eventally upgrade to a fs wants my back can't take no more.

Even if you put that Reba on the mantle and just look at it from time to time it's worth it!
