    I need a new ride

Long stort short: Tremendous wreck followed by surgery. Here is the scar. I need a new ride. I crashed a 2000 Gary Fisher Big Sur (hard tail). Now it is time for something new. Budget is $2500. XC riding no freeride or big air in my future.

A picture of the wrecked bike would have been more palatable.

How about a Gary Fisher Hi-Fi? My friend has one, I rode it for about an hour. He has Mavic SLR's and it's lighter than my Heckler. Rides great!
The Cannondale Rush is a good XC bike, too IMO, test rode them at my local LBS.

Yes, as mentioned look into 29er's, they're great for soaking up big bumps etc.
Giant Rincon. Riding Trails and just having fun is what it's all about.
