In need of some opinions....

Hi guys, first time poster here.
Ive had my current bike for about 10 years and am ready to making the jump to a full suspension bike.
After looking around for the last few weeks, Im trying to decide between 3 Giant bikes.
1. Giant Anthem 3 06 model
2. Giant Anthem 2
3. Giant Trance 2

Ive got the 06 Anthem 3 on hold, but its only a 16 and I need an 18. She told me I could buy the 16 and buy an 18 frame and swap the components and then sell the 16 frame. But that just sounds like a lot of work to me. Seems it would be easier to just buy an 18 to start with.

Im interested in hearing some opinions of the bikes from somebody other than the guy behind the counter trying to sell me one.

Thanks in advance for any input.

My advice is to run, quickly, from that salesperson and that bike shop. Why would you pay so much for something you can't use? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You can find what you need or want; all you have to do is look.

As for what bike, you'd need to provide a lot of details on the type of riding you do and will be doing. Anthems are XC/XC racing and Trances are more trail. Personally, I have a highly upgraded Anthem 3 and absolutely LOVE it but it fits my riding style and the terrain I ride on. You need to match that along with what you're willing to spend and what bike you feel most comfortable on. Have you ridden any of these bikes your local trails? That's always a must.

But first step, IMO, is never to set foot in that bike shop again. Anyone who would try to sell me a bike too small and justify it by saying I could swap out the frame and buy the right one is not truly a salesperson I would want to buy anything from.

Just my opinion. There will be others in here.

Thanks for the response.
I didn't really like their buy and swap idea either.

I ride on road and off road in the same ride. I go from my house about 5 miles to a wooded area and ride, then ride home. The to and from is all on road, and once I get there its all off road, unless I ride around the lake, but thats a very small portion of where I spend my time.

I got to ride the Anthem around the parking lot and a gravel area, but not on any trails. One of the first questions I asked them was if I bought the bike and after riding it for a week decided it wasn't that great, if I could return it. They said I could with a deduction from the price if dirty or scrathed.

After looking at my current bike and the Geometry of the Giants, I didn't like the sloped angle of the seat post. I felt like I was peddaling way out in front of me. Which in the long run might be better for hills, because Ive noticed that short coming while climbing with my current bike, maybe its just a lot different from what Im used to so it feels wierd.

There are only two bike shops in my area, this one that has Giant and Trek and another that has GT bikes. There is one other but they don't have anything in the price range Im in. My only other option is online, but Im hesitant to go that route being a first time buyer.
