Got Tetanus (Shot)?

See this thread:
Who's yer daddy?

I saw the Doc today - all is fine, numbness is common for this type of blunt trauma. He saw my "hamburger" arms and asked when I last had a Tetanus shot.

"Uh....I don't know"...so he had the nurse give me a booster.

With all the scrapes and wounds we get as bikers - EVERY LAST ONE of us should be damn sure we're up to date. I looked it up...this stuff can be DEADLY and swift!

I got my tetanus back in July 1996, when I went to work on the fishing boats in Alaska. Since they last 10 years, I know I'm good. I'm glad the doctor talked me into getting it done then- I'll never forget why I got the shot, so I won't forget WHEN I got the shot, so I won't have to put up with another shot because I can't remember when I had my last tetanus.

Man, I hate shots.

I wish I had some implanted chip that kept track of these things. I can barely remember yesterday, much less 10 years of injuries. I probably end up getting the shot every 4 to 6 years just because I can't answer the question of when I last had one.

I manage to do something involving stitches often enough that I never need to keep track of tetanus shots.

6 months, give or take a few, for me.

Isn't it weird how you don't feel anything till they pull it out? It's kinda cool to watch the needle disappear into your arm (and disturbing, too).

Last time was while Windsufing, sliced my foot on my carbon centerboard.

Only 5 stiches and one tetanus shot! Think it's been more 5 years, but less than 10.

I think I'm still good for another 2 years!

Maybe during my next physical, I'll request a shot!

I haven't seen a board with a centerboard in 10 years. You should go get the shot just for sailing a log!

Tetanus shots hurt like a *****. I was supposed to get mine last august but the local doc doesnt stock it anymore and they only give it to people in the ER. Good thing i didnt need stitches when i got stuck during a hockey game in december. I fell down on the kid in front of the net and his foot came up and nailed me right near the arm pit. I lucked out and it didnt go much further than the first layer of fat under my arm. It was kinda cool to move my arm up and down and see the stuff under the skin move.....

You got sliced in the armpit down to the the first layer of fat...you thought it was cool...but you think a Tetanus shot hurts? Didn't seem to hurt much more than a little pinch to me...

I got the shot yesterday...I feel a minor soreness - like a small bruise in the area of the shot. I guess it all depends on your pain threshold. Mine is pretty friggin high.

I've learned if you massage the area where they give you the shot for about an hour afterwards (on and off massaging), you don't feel sore the next morning. Whenever I forget to do that, my arm throbs, but if I take the time to massage and knead the area, I'm good to go- no pain.
