    good mountain bike magazine?

sorry, i guess this topic shouldn't really belong here, but i guess it's about mountain biking. well i was thinking of ordering some mountain biking magazines, and i was wondering what's good out there? im thinking of "Bike" magazine, but I don't know how good that is. It'd be great if the magazine had posters too. Post if you know any good mountain biking magazines. i guess a bit of road biking and other stuff would be good too. thanks in advance.

The best "real world" bike magazine I've come across is Dirt Rag It has a lot of material from regular folks along with reviews where the item is used at least six weeks. I used to have a subscription to "Mountain Bike" until the publisher cut it's production and made it an add-on subscription to "Bicycling" I dropped them because the thing was too full of adds and stupid **** like Style Man.
Occasionally I'll check out Mountain Bike Action online, but I wouldn't drop the coin on them.

I don't mind MBA too much. It's only something like $37 for 2 years which is only about 9 store bought mags, so if 15 of them are bad, you're still even. They seem to give at least 1 or 2 knocks to everything they review, which is good. It does make manufacturers turn out better products IMO.

I did buy one issue of Dirt Rag and I did read it cover to cover, word for word it seems. But when I leaf through it in the stores, I never seem to find that little something that makes me want to pick it up. Maybe there's just not enough reviews on bikes & gear. I don't know. I don't even need a bike, nor any gear for that matter.

I would rank them MBA if you're looking for lots of reviews, Dirt Rag if you're looking for intellectual mountain bike banter. The rest of the mags out there I found lacking.

Depends what kinda of riding you wanna see or read about.

Decline - Posters, DJ FR DH type riding.
    Dirtrag - XC AM
Bike - A little bit of everything.
Bike Mag - A little bit of everything. Mostly Product reviews.

Mountainbike Action seems fair and balanced. That is my preferred magazine. They report, you decide.

Dirt Rag. Why? To me they seem to be less commericialized - it has some advertising but not nearly as much as MBA and others, with thoughtful, well written articles in the mix. Hang around on dirtragmag.com for a while and you'll see what I mean...

from my limited experience i feel that dirt rag is a good one
they held it for a single month here in my small (growing) college town's organic foods store but never brought it back.
i guess the most interest it received was from the lighter-walleted stickier-fingered types

it depends on you riding style and interest. I ride XC and I find the Singletrac (UK based) a very useful and informative magazine. it is not geared towards US market, but I think thats a good thing. Kind of refreshing. expensive if you buy from the store. but I still do it on a pretty regular basis.

    here is their link

    http://www.singletrackworld.com/

I like Mountain Bike Action. No matter how you fill about it, MBA puts out a lot of practical and useful information. specially for bigginers. I laugh at some of their stuff (e.g. black diamond category)...but, no magazine is perfect.

DartRag....its a good read. mature graphics, writing and content. It does some good reviews but, to me, they dont seem to cover as much as the MBA does. I may be wrong. I take dartrag while I travel or while I am on a vacation.

Finally, I like Bike. they are a bit different. very refreashing. does not pack as much as the MBA or DirtRag. but still a good magazine, if you like something different.

so, my order of preference is (for a bigginer and an XC rider looking for wide range of information)

    - Singletrack
    - MBA
    - DirtRag
    - Bike
"....You are never lost, if you dont care where you are...."
