New Bike and Squeaking???

I bought a new Sepcialized Hardrock today from my local certified Specialized retailer today. I cou;dn't wait to get riding! I rode half way across town and back. I noticed however when I was about a half mile from my house I began to hear a squeak. So I got off the bike checked everything and looked fine. Walked it about 100 feet no squeak. Got back on the bike again... the squeak came back. I noticed when I am doing some hard pedaling the squeak goes away. but when I am just coasting and not pedaling the squeak is still there... I tried my rear brake and if i gently apply the rear break the squeak stops. But it is a wierd kinda annoying problem. I can not narrow it down. I also noticed when I ride some small circles on it I hear the squeak a little louder. Help!

I had that problem.. It was just some disc brake rub. No big deal, just make sure the rim is in true, either way. It could *also* be in your crank, but its nothing big. Don't worry about it. Spray penetrating lube if it comes from a pivot or something, adjust your brakes if its coming from there.

My friend bought a hardrock 3 months ago, and we went out riding the next day. 2 miles into our ride, his left crank started creaking. Stopping to check it out, his plastic preload plate on his left crank was missing, and the bolt holding the crank arm on was on its last threads and almost fell off! We didn't have an 8 mm hex handy, so I tightened it with a pair to pliers best we could. The bolt eventually kept loosening, halting our ride prematurely. Check out this area and report if this is your problem too!
