New bikes at the LBS

My LBS is picking up Trek. He has Schwinn and Specialized right now, but because of Schwinn's problems he is picking up Trek just in case whoever gets Schwinn sells them out to x-marts. This is great news for me! He doesn't have the new bikes in yet, but as soon as he does I am going to be at his shop checking them out!!!

BTW, has anybody heard what is going on with Schwinn? The last I heard Nautilus(fitness machine company) wants to buy the whole she-bang, and has outbid Pacific and Huffy. I sure hope this deal goes through. On September 15 the court will make its ruling.

I would want anyone besides Huffy buy out Schwinn/GT.

Nautilus has said they don't plan to make any changes to Schwinn/GT. They will let them continue as they have in the past.

Schwinn does have a pretty decent fitness division. I'm sure that's where their interest is. I don't know what would happen to the cycling division though.

Incedentally, I had heard that Bow-flex (one of the hot new fitness do-dads) had a bid too. Any word on this?

I just bought my Schwinn Mesa GSX today. I am extremely happy with it. I was told that the warranty would be honored no matter what happens to the company. (I researched this through several bike shops and called Schwinn). I am very curious as to what this will do to Schwinn's future bike lines and I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

What will happen is that if your bike encounters an experience necessitating warranty work, any parts not made by Schwinn will likely have their own warranties. The LBS promising coverage no matter what happens likely means that they will take care of you to keep you a happy customer no matter what happens. Nobody knows if they will honor warranties or not at this point - the new owners are not under obligation to apparently. Good luck!
