Mine hits the scales at around 25-25 pounds. It's a XC hardtail with discs, and I run tubeless. Really depends on the type of bike. My trail bike weighs closer to 30.. maybe over 30.. dunno

Wow - there is just too much of a variation to answer that question. There are mountain bikes that tip the scales below 20 pounds, and some that crush the scales @ over 40 pounds. However, as a general reference ... an all-mountain type hardtail generally comes in between 23-28 pounds, and an all-mountain type FS rig usually comes in between 26-32 pounds.

that's an awfully light mountain bike with virtually nothing on it.

My marin riftzone (FS) is 26 pounds. but then again my friends titanium hardtail is also 26 pounds. but it seams that most MTB (cross country) are in the 23-29 pound range.

I have an aluminum singlespeed that's just a tick over 20 pounds, and that's a converted Homegrown with a cassette wheel and chain tensioner on it. My regular mtb weighs in at 21 lbs. Ti mountain bikes tend to be a little heavier than their aluminum bretheren.

FWIW, my full-suspension XC bike comes in around 26.5 lbs.

There is a trade-off between light-weight and strength/durability. Light and expensive is not always strong. For example, the XTR bottom bracket (at least up until the '03 product line) was not as strong as the XT unit. The XT was not as light, but was about 1/2 the price of the XTR unit ....and!! It was tougher.
I'm an XC rider who likes my bike to be light for climbing and nimbleness on the trails at speed. HOwever, I also like to do drops and jumps and stuff. I weigh 170lbs - if was on a 20lb bike it'd crumble under me.... UNacceptable!
My Specialized Stumpjumper FSR-XC, outfitted with mostly XT components and an S-Works wheelset (1450gm/set), weighs in at about 26 lbs. A pretty good weight for a full-suspension (large size) XC bike. The S-Works version of that bike weighed in at about 1 lb lighter. ....and that S-Works frame (for the 2000 model year - same year as my bike) was built of lighter materials and was also known to fail on riders from time-to-time.
HaPPy Trails....

Whats the point in having a bike that weighs 15 lbs. that you can't ride? Its like someone who just buys it for the bragging rights.

Enh, it's probably RIDEABLE.. but I wouldn't ride it. Fortunately I only weigh 140 pounds so I can get away with thrashing hard on light weight equipment.. but that's just a bit crazy. That's like downhilling on a high end road bike.. rediculous.

Hmm, my XC rig is 29, and my DH is 44, so for me, the average is 36.5!
