Moving on up...to the east siiiide...
 

The actual move wasn't bad. Four days of hauling the scrubmobile behind a 16" truck, with Mrs. Scrub driving her car. With the two scrubkitties. Stress ensued, but we all managed to not kill one another.

My company totally screwing the pooch on arranging our housing? That was bad. One of the perks for working for a travel nurse company had always been them hooking me up with housing...in the past at least. It makes it a super easy move. Show up, unload your crap. Start you job, and you have a minimum of three months to scope out the area/find your own place/whatever. Nice, makes ya' want to howl, right?

Yeah, when they don't screw it up and stick you in a hotel for a week. Throwing everything (well, nearly) that you own into a storage unit? I do not suggest it to anyone. However, it was a muuuuuch cheaper option than keeping the moving truck for another week and a half, and much more secure.

Anyhow, Jisch was kind enough to arrange a local guided ride for the first weekend we were in town. Excellent, if a wet/hot/humid introduction to things. (those shots courtesy jisch)

So now we're in our corporate supplied housing. Figure we'll stay here 6-9 months until we figure out getting into our own place. It's a nice spot, but my commute sucks, and the best riding spots seem to be closer to where we want to settle down in the end eventually. Oh well, for free rent, I can deal with much.

Despite that, I've had an excellent introduction to some local spots, on my own, and guided. Some sweet, sweet technical riding, of a kind that I very much enjoy. My low light level photography needs a lot of work, however, even moreso than my skinny riding.

Bikezilla and his N.Y. crew were along with yesterdays ride crew; he's on a nice chunky little roller here.


I've already had some of the best damn pizza of my life. Back in the land of good Dunkin Donuts, better cannoli, and fresh cheaper seafood. Five days off coming up; it'll be a combination of eating some good italian food, and riding. Now if some of those front range jerks would stop calling to heckle me.

This one is easy. Except that it comes at the end of a long section of rock spine, with a small drop, and another little skinny thrown into the mix. Didn't quite get the whole thing yesterday; had to hop off about three feet to the end. It was getting greeeeeaaaaasy from all our loam-wet tires.

Cleaned it last week, onsite first attempt while here solo last week. Of course I came off the last bit sideways just before the end. Freakin' jong.

Welcome to the east side.

While your in the area, you're going to have to hit up the kingdom trails in East Burke VT, and the Vietnam trails in Holliston/Lynn Mass. For the Vietnam trails, I can arrange for someone to show you around the place if you would like. The guy literally lives right by one of the trail heads.

It's good stuff. It makes up in technicality what it lacks in vert and overall mileage. 10 miles of some of this techy stuff here has me worked like 20 miles of average front range trail.

I really, really dig tight/technical trails, and there is plenty of that here. Some of the completely legal stuff I've ridden the las two weeks wouldn't exist on the Colorado front range, at least not legally.

Very, very flowy. Nearly all the woodwork is using natural features (downed trees and moved rocks) with very little in the way of brought in stuff like other wood/nails. Very, very cool stuff, and super fun to ride. My skinny riding skills are getting better already.

Been to both a few times. I was an honorary M******* for two years. :) Lived equidistant between Lynn and the Fells; mostly hit those, but hit a whole lot of other stuff too. Wompy, Otis, H. Parker, a bunch of places in VT and NH as well.

Mrs. Scrub's family is all in Boston, and Maine. whenever we go to visit for any length of time, I plan to bring a bike and incorporate some ride time into the trips.

Vietnam has changed drastically since you were last there, new trails, new features, powerline area is legal.

For NH, I'd recommend hitting Bear Brook , Fox Park, Fox State Forest, and the Hospital Trail in Concord, NH. Maine has some extremely good singletrack.

IF you ever make it down to NJ, I'll personally go out of my way to show you around Allamuchy, Ringwood, Chimney rock and the back side of Round Valley(All large, loose rocks.)

Edit: I forgot you were in the northeast for awhile, in that case welcome back.

I'll take you up on your N.J. trail offer one of these days. I'm only 1.5 hours from Diablo, and there is also apparantly a ton of good stuff just across the border from me in N.Y.

Though I still have plenty of new places to explore. The closest that I've hit is a little local spot about 4 miles from me; easy spin to get there. A little spaghetti bowl maze of marked and unmarked stuff, with lots of potential. Not as techy as much of the other stuff, but it's nice that it's within pedaling from home distance.

When it comes time, let me know.

Miller's Pond, and a bit at Trumbull. The latter half of the above vid was elsewhere; I worked the night before, and was too damn tired to do more skinny stuff. Headed home.

Nice. Unfortunately, my job doesn't allow for much evening riding. It's not a bad spot to ride... in fact, probably one of the better places to ride in southwest CT.

Where is Miller's Pond? Sounds familiar... but I can't place it.

Durham. Also close to Tyler Mill. A bit of a haul from down here, but worthwhile if you want to hit new trail/do a long enough ride.

Hey, we're also very close to Ninham, and a few other spots just over the border in N.Y.

Was going to head to West Woods today, but took a hip shot yesterday from a rock that has left things a bit too tender for my riding tastes.

Ahh, yes. Tyler Mill. I have a buddy who lives up that way. We checked it out once late last season. Been meaning to go back.

West Woods is a good time too. I've ridden there a few times. Not terribly familiar with all of the trails, but there is some decent single track. And a nice lengthy climb, as I recall.

Check out Case Mountain in the Manchester area as well. There's some pretty good riding through there. I'm not much for the drops and jumps, but there is some opportunity for it there. The pink trail is a pretty good little technical decent from the summit. If I remember correctly, the blue trail provides some more technical stuff with a few drops.

The West Hartford Reservior also provides a lot of riding, though not too challenging. There are just miles and miles of trails up that way.

Case, Ninham, and a few other spots I'm waiting to go check out during group ride things. They are far enough away that driving all that to go explore/get lost could really suck. I hear they are such mazes that some group ride action is highly suggested the first few rides there.

Plus, my sense of direction sucks.

It took a few rides at Case for me to figure out where I was going. I think there is plenty more there to see, but I've got a set of trails I typically stick to when riding it. I haven't actually been up there this season.
