Bike build - Gift Certificate
here it is. I have recently purchased a 2006 Jamis XLT 3.0 frame in 17". First bought a 2005 XLT 2.0 and then changed it, its a long story....
Now, I need some ideas how to build it up as a true All Mountain Machine. I am going to offer a $20 gift certificate for the best built idea. The decision is totally subjective and would depend on what I like at the time of my final decision. I dont know how many people would be interested to participate it this, but if I like 2 or 3 ideas, I would see how I can reward them also. The winner will be able to select from the following five stores for the gift certificate:

Here are the description:
Budget Limit: $2000 for all the components. The lower the budget the better score you will get for the idea.
Aesthetics: this is the second most important criterion. I am not too excited about the color of the frame. So, I would like to pimp it up with decent (interesting but not loud) looking components. Like, I was thiking that a white accent all through the bike components may be interesting.
Weight Limit: around 30lbs. I am not too firm on the weight. Weight is an important issue, but if the quality is right, I would accept a few ounces here and there.
riding style and terrain: XC/All Mountain. This bike will not be used for XC racing or anything competitive. It would be used for tail riding all over the north east, on terrains with lots of roots, loose rocks, gravels, mud and show. There will be a lot of climbing and nice rolling downhill sections. I love the downhill section of every trail riding. But, only if I climb the uphill on my bike. then I feel like I earned the down hill fun. there will be small jumps and drops. but I would want to ride more aggressively as I go deep into the potentials of a full suspension bike.
Some specification about the components:
Brakes: must be mechanical. no questions.
Cassettes: 11-34
Fork: lock out, Travel Adjustment (100-130mm)
Pedals: Platform
Last date of submitting the build idea: 30 October 2007.
I will make a decision by 10 November 2007. and the winner(s) will receive the $20 gift certificate within 7 business days after I make the decision.
I am starting this pretty early on cause I want to give you enough time.
Rules: one person one entry. if one person place multiple entry, the first entry would be considered as the valid one.
You can post the entry on this site or pm me. I understand that there would be a level of similarity amongst the entries (I am desperately assuming that more than one person will participate). But if two entries are exactly identical they would not be considered for winning the $20 gift certificate.

One more consideration. This frame has an effective top tube of 22.5". I would like to extend it to around 23". What would be a better Idea.....a layback seatpost or a longer stem. if the stem is the way to go, I had been thinking about using a 70mm stem. but to reach that 0.5 inch or so, I could go with a 90mm stem.
or, is the thompson layback seatpost the way to go?
pros and cons of either option? help please.
