Pedals

So after searching the forums and reading about Shimano 520's and Crankbros Eggbeaters, my conclusion is that the choice is solely based on consumer preference. They are the same price at Performance, have almost the same rating on MTBR and from everything on here it seems like either one will work. So I am just going to pick one and I will do fine no matter what, right?

I guess so. I run Eggbeater SLs and I'm new to clipless. I've had them for like 3 weeks now and I mostly crashed (slow speed .. ) on my first 2 or 3 days. They were awful too..the really slow kind of crash when i forgot to clip out.

If you're getting EggBeater C, PM me..cause I got a set I can sell ya for cheap. I ended up not using them.

I think I am going with the Eggbeater Chromoly pedals. I use clipless for road bikes so I am not concerned with clipping in and out. Thanks for the offer though.

Everybody seems to love time. I have crank bros but am very tempted to try the time.

Careful with the Chromoly versions because a lot of people reported them breaking and stuff.

Have you guys tries the Speedplay Frogs? I talked to my LBS and they recommended that as well when I was learning clipless.

Time and Speedplay are way out of my budget, as I am a college student. I will already have to cut down on spending for this upcoming year because of an obscene amount of money spent on biking. Once I graduate and get a job, I will invest in some nicer biking stuff.

I love using 520's. There simple to mount, adjust, and clip in to. I found a new set with cleats for 36 bucks on ebay. I think he had some more as well. You might want to look into those.

The lower end TIMEs aren't super expensive ($59.99), plus they are usually pretty available used on craigslist. I love my TIMEs to death, but I would definitely choose Eggbeaters over Shimanos. I feel your pain though, I'm a college student who spends way too much money on bike stuff...
