Doh, crank broke in the middle of my ride. Nice long story

Went on a bike ride on this paved trail by the shop where I bought my bike. About 2-3 miles into the ride my crank started coming loose so I decided I'd better turn around and head back.

I stopped for a minute to let some bikers catch up with me and asked them if they had any tools or anything on them. This lady said she did and went digging through her pouch on her bike and came out with a few alan wrenches. I immediately went for the largest size she had and it wasn't big enough and she apologized and said that if I wanted to just wait around for awhile there is a person that comes down the trail on a golf cart every now and then to give people rides who need it.

I decided that I'll just try to make it back to the shop instead of waiting since it'd probably be about another hour before somebody came by who could help me. About half way back to the shop the screw holding the crank on came out and the crank fell off which was a little embarrasing.

So I stopped and walked about 15ft to pickup my crank and pedal and put them in my pocket and searched around for the screw and couldn't find it. Pretty pissed off I had no choice but to walk the rest of the way. I tried sitting on the bike and using my legs to move me which didn't work too well. So then I tried pedaling with the right pedal which didn't work either so I pushed my bike back to the shop and the guy who works there recognized me and I showed him my problem and he fixed it within minutes and didn't charge me.

Since I got a nice rest at the shop while he was fixing it I decided that I'd go out and ride some more. So even though I've already broken something on my brand new bike today has been a good day. I feel really energized right now even though I've rode about 6 miles total and walked the other 2. I would have rode a lot further but I needed to get home and take a shower and all that because I'm going somewhere later. Also my knees hurt like a sonuva*****.

//edit The title is a bit misleading but I couldn't really think of a better one. Doh I'll try editing it

A few years ago, I snapped my crank-arm in two while mountain biking. I popped of a little jump, and when I landed, I thought that my shoe came unclipped. Much to my suprise, when I looked down, the pedal wass still in my shoe with the end of the crank arm attached!

I ended up pedaling with one leg for about 2 miles up the trail, and then one-footed it for another several miles on the road.

I feel your pain!

Man, that sounds horrible! For awhile I thought I broke my pedal or something. Then as I went further and further it kept getting looser so I looked down and noticed the crank arm was wobbling a bit. I decided to try going just a little further and it got worse so I stopped and examined it, wiggled it around a bit, cussed some and turned around. It's amazing how much faster it is to ride somewhere than it is it walk. Took me like 30 minutes to walk what took me 4-5 to ride.

In the meantime, you guys will love this...I GOT MY BIKE DIRTY! heh, the way a mountain bike should be. Also it's nice to improve on my bunnyhopping skills because it just rained and i was bunnyhopping over the large puddles. Made it completely over most but one I went over i landed in another one. Doh!

I'm working on building up my stanima riding the pave trails before I move onto the ruggid offroad trails. Ive just started riding again so I'm pretty out of shape right now.

Nice, this Sat I was riding at Mt snow with my brother-in-law, he borrowed my second bike. The peddle on the left crank was really loose & he lost it about 1/4 of the way down. I was pissed but wasn't worried I had a whole box of spare parts back in my Jeep. I coasted the disabled bike all the way down the mtn, that was a job.

Back at the jeep all I had was a right sided pedal & we really wanted to take one more run...So I put a spare crankset on the left side as well, man it looked funny, a triple chainring on both sides of the bike, the lift operator didn't even notice.

Well, I just got back from riding again today and the crank arm came loose again. I made it back before it came off though and went to the shop and the guy is going to order me a new one and put it on and isn't charging me for it. Great service I guess but my bike is out of commission at least until the middle of next week
