    Downhillers

I was in at the tail end of a 77 mile road ride up a six mile hill at Snoeshoe, WV the other day. There I am climbing and climbing, and here comes a buss full of downhillers with their bikes on a trailer. Now I ride XC, but I just couldn't believe downhillers existed it till I actually saw it. People ride bikes down hill and take a bus or a ski lift back up. It's just crazy. The whole point of biking (to me) is to travel under your own power.

If you're a down hiller, you ought to consider just buying a dirtbike. You already have the helmet and chest protector. A decencent used dirtbike only costs as much as downhill bike. The money you save on lift tickets can be put towards gas. You don't have to ride at only at ski resorts. Plus dirtbikes are way faster, and can jump further. If your going to use mechcanical power do it right.

Haha! That was a very amateur attempt at being a troll. Do try to be a bit more subtle; you will draw more of the unsuspecting in.

No I'm serious, I can't understand why anyone would ride downhill.

I'm still not biting. BTW, trolling works better with proper spelling. Bus instead of buss; decent instead of decencent; etc. - - lends credibility.

I'm going to have confit de canard for supper tonight. My local supermarket sells some that have already been prepared and that simply need warming in the oven. I don't think I'd have the patience or skill to prepare it from scratch.

I like duck but I've never had confit de canard...it sounds tasty though.

It is delicious. You must have French restaurants out west? Take your missus out for a nice dinner.

I admit, my second paragraph was probably unnecessary and made the post seem trollish. I really did find it quite strange that day. I saw an aspect of cycling that was very foreign to me.

Did it ever occur to you that others may ride for reasons different than your own?

P.S. All of us on the bus were laughing at you.

The SS bus is not nearly as fancy, although it appears to be of similar vintage...

One of the drivers, Kerry, is really fun to ride up with. He absolutely flogs that thing, and executes perfect double clutched, rev matched downshifts every time. That's not a simple task while piloting a short bus overfilled with loud, muddy dhers on a steep mountain road with a 30 bike trailer in tow.

The OP doesnt find downhilling appealing, so what? let him be and let him express his thoughts. They are as valid as the opposing ones.

****! Where's the freedom of speech here?

I think we did that, didn't we? I'm not even sure I saw an opposing view expressed. I think that was very commendable of all of us.
