Any Opinions on "Y" frames.

I've seen quite a few riders lately riding on what I looked up to be Y frames. If you look at the bike frame, you can see why they call it a Y frame as well. Is their any benefits to Y frames. What type of riding are they used for. Are their any negative comments about them. Any facts or opinions would be great. Thanks.

Most of the "Y" framed bikes you see out there a cheap toy store bikes, I havnt seen many high end bikes with this design, I know Trek dabbled in that type frame for a bit, Im sure others have as well
