shwinn or trek

Hi,
I'm looking at the trek 4300 and even the 3700 due to price being a factor(married) and came across a like new used mesa with disc brakes at a killer deal, seams like a killer deal, I dont know much about schwinns,, was about $500 new,, seems like its in good shape in the pics,,
Are they worth the time? I will be using the bike for trails near the house,, I live in the pa mountains and the trails are rocky..
Thanks,
Steve

Tough decision. I have a Trek 3700 and love it. My wife has A Schwinn and loves it as well. At the lower price points things are generally even if you are buying new. I say check both out and see which one is most comfortable and you enjoy riding more. Personally I like the Trek over Schwinn due to the larger frame tubes. That however is personaly preference but I find it fits my personality more. You can get a better bike for the same money as a used lower end bike new but make sure you check it out completely for any damage and check components for problems as they may get pricey to fix in the future.

Ok to stir it up a little more,, How about a gary fisher wahoo disc? Its used and needs a little work, it would be way cheaper than the new trek, and about the same$ as the schwinn..
Thanks,,
Steve
To clarify,, swin $250 obo,, and the Gf wahoo,, $200 wheels are bent,,

Sorry for the newb questions,, but I don't always trust LBS, if your not a reg. they seem to see an easy mark,, and like the one I stopped in today,, went from making sense to jumping to gary fisher 29for 1200+.. So I walked out with as much info as I went in with,,
