drops

Hey, I've been doing small drops lately around my neighbourhood, the biggest being maybe 4 feet? nothing too big. recently though, my friends and i found this sweet drop thats id say 6-7 feet? it lands into a gravel soccer feild, so the landing is flat. i was wondering is the technique the same as doing small drops? its a downhill before the drop, so we get lots of speed. usually i just lift my front ever so slightly when i do drops, so that i land even. but for bigger drops, is everything still the same? ive seen in pictures that people tend to lean back and center their weight over the back of the wheel when they do drops. Pretty much what im asking is the correct way to sucessfully land big drops on flat land (lean back, lift a lot etc)

oh and while im at it, i also have drops around 5 feet that land to a downhill. should everything be the same as just lifting? or should i aim for landing on my back or front first. thanks in advance guys.

For big drops I usually unweight just enough to keep the wheels level off the drop, then gradually nose in, land smoothly, and ride away from the curb.

I think the preferred method is to land rear wheel first.

Thankfully, the keyboard I just ruined is a work one, and not my own.

Most excellent.

For higher drops i land rear first thought it shouldn't all go into the rear. try to make it 2/3 rear 1/3 front.

do u kinda lift the bike front up and lean back like i do, or push the bike forward?

Are you landing to flat or a tranny?

Yes, do not Google his Granny . . . er . . .tranny. Honestly, you do and you'll probably get one of those cheesy 700R4s.

the common stuff i do right now are flats, but they dont get any higher than around 4 feet. as ive mentioned, we just found a drop that should be around 6-7 feet. we're going to be building a transition with dirt of w/e. what im wondering though, is for any drops, do u push the bike forward, or lean back and pull up. i think the "correct" way is pushing the bike forward, but I'm just wondering.

If you have to ask how, you may not want to attempt a 6' drop.

chrisernator 09-11-07 08:43 AM

and i would like to learn how, so eventually i can. what im doing right now is alright for 4 foot drops, but im afraid it wont do for anything bigger.

If its to a tranny then what I do is push the front forwards while letting it drop just enough so you are parallel to the tranny allowing you to land both wheels at the same time. Smooth and fast.
