Will Crank Bros Mallet pedals work with these Shimano shoes?
i want to get the Crank Brothers Mallet pedals but have heard they don't work with all mountain shoes, that the traction on the soles can prevent you from clicking in. does anyone know if these Shimano shoes are compatible?

probably. are you buying them online or from the lbs? if from the lbs then ask them if you can try to clip your shoes into a pair. I haven't used the mallets, but I do have the time atacs and shimano shoes that look similar to yours with no problem. I think the problem lies in the shoes with heavy grips on the shoes, almost like hiking-grips. You may want to wait for a reply from somebody who has a pair of mallets.

No way to know for sure. I know w/ my Specialized shoes, when I ran Mallets, I had to grind off some tread, and space out the cleats, and they were still rubbing the tread.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
I use these Specialized MTB shoes with Mallets:

The pic there doesn't show the tread, but comparing with the pic you've posted, mine have a lot more tread.
The bails stick up far enough from the pedals that they engage the cleats on my shoes without the need for spacers or shims.
