What I learned on my ride yesterday

After bombing down a big hill and using your brakes to modulate your speed all the way down, don't let your calf touch your rear brake rotor. Yeeeouch! That ****e is hot! I've been branded.

Not much to show, just a thin red line down the back of my calf. The edge of the rotor got me. Whats funny about it is that it intersects a pedal strike scar I got last November after I started riding fixed gear and pulled a nose wheelie to avoid two unlit night time ninja cyclists riding down the middle of a dark street. My left calf is cursed, I guess.

Yeah. The pedal strike looks like the number 4, the burn kinda goes down it vertically; still stings today actually.

Uhhh, not really. It wasn't an intentional nose wheelie. I had just started riding fixed gear, but I'd already ditched the rear brake(form over function FTW). I was going to my cousin's house. It was night time, I've got lights, these dudes didn't. I was going kinda fast, turned a corner and these two guys were right there, obscured by a van parked at the corner. One dude was riding on the right side of the road, his buddy was riding on the left side; riding abreast. I hit my front(only) brake in a panic; the rear wheel lifted into the air, I did a curving nose wheelie between the two of them. In retrospect it was funny. The one guy was yelling "Whoa, WHOA, WHOA!" as I went between the two of them. My left foot slipped out of the clips and strap dealie and the pedal gave me a scar to remember it by.

I got mad and yelled at these guys, but I realized that the blame was pretty much equal on that one; them for riding unlit and in dark clothing; me for riding too fast for the conditions and full of new found fixed gear exuberance.
[That bike got stolen, the fixed gear I've got now https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1111/...17bec3.jpg?v=0 has two brakes and will most likely remain with two brakes.
