Kenda Nevegal or Panaracer Fire XC Pro ???

I live in Missouri and ride alot of XC singletrack. I just purchased a Bianchi Mutt 7700 and the tires have no control and corner terrible. I have already had the bike slide out from under me on high speed turns.
The tires that are currently on the bike are Contiental Speed King 2.3's.
Im leaning more towards Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1's. Anyone have a recommendation**********??
The tires on my previous bike were Hutchinson Spider Air light and they were great tires. Im looking to try something different though. Anyone have a recommendation**********??

I live in Kansas and ride alot of singletrack too...like oh ma'gosh!!!

I wanted to get this in before Born2bahick tells you to go out and get some Panaracers

I have used both Fire XC Pro 2.1's and Nevegal 2.35 Stick-E and DTC's. My favorite by far is the Nevegal. My favorite Nevegal for traction is the Stick-E compound, but they don't last long, so I use the DTC's. They still grip like a mutha, but last 4x longer. With the 2.35" casing, I can run around 37psi, get good traction, and still not pinch flat.

I climb some steep, loose, rocky, rooty hills and don't run tubeless. I still get hella traction! A couple of riding buddies use the Fire XC Pro 2.1's, but they run them with Stan's. They get hella traction too, but I'm too leary of tubeless.

Both are good tires and it really depends on who you talk to as to what kind of review you will get, but I've used Panaracer Fire's, WTB Velociraptors, Bontrager Jones, Kenda Smallblock 8, Kenda Knarly, Hutch Pythons, IRC Mythos XC, IRC Mythos XC slick, Tioga Factory Mud, Tioga Factory DH, Kenda Nevegal's...and some others that I can't remember anymore because of my age

The Kenda's have given me the most traction and DTC's have lasted longest.

Also Im concerned about weight. I want a tire thats around 500g's. Thats why I was leaning towards the Fire XC Pro 2.1 cause it weights in at 580gs.

If you are worried about weight, I would go with a kenda karma instead the Panaracers.

That is just my personal preference though.

you can go for the nevegal in 1.95's also. similiar weight to the panaracers.

If there's anything that I've learned about tires...you expend more energy spinning up a loose climb trying to keep momentum with limited traction than adding 100g of rotating weight. Another reason I run 2.35's now.

Just get some Kenda Smallblock 8's. They feel alot like the Hutchison Pythons in acceleration yet they have a ton more traction. Those things are waaaaay light and actually have quite a bit of traction until the trail gets wet. I had a pair and loved them for their intended purpose. They did pretty well on most dry trail conditions.

They're like a mini'Nevegal. Same knobs as a Neve, but more/smaller/spaced closer.

Really fast roller.

I guarentee you won't notice the difference between a 610g 2.1 Nevegal DTC and a 580g Panaracer Fire XC Pro in weight as much as you will notice the advantage in grip of the Kenda over the Panaracer.

The Fire has very good grip but rolls a little slow compared to some others due to the massive knobbyness IMO.

I just picked up Maxxis Crossmark and they are superfast. We have not had much rain recently... I'll see how that goes.

By the way, Bikeforums.net is full of FireXC haters!

It looks like im gonna go with Nevegals. Would you guys recommend going smaller in the back and larger in the front. I was thinking about going 2.1 in the back and 2.35 in the front.

Would a 1.95 in the back be to small?? It is a DTC lite and weighs 580gs?

Don't get me wrong (if indeed that was directed in my general dir.) the Fire is a good tire. I have a set on my wife's bike and my commuter / beater. I just find the Nev's to be much better "for me".

Since the MUTT has a Tora, I'd say 2.1" on both ends would be pretty good for it unless you ride it like a cra-Z mofo or pick horrendous lines. If it were a completely rigid bike, then I'd say 2.35's all the way around. When I rode my XC/trail hardtail, I was using 2.1's on both ends, but since I moved over to a longer legged dually, I have bumped up to a bigger 2.35" casing.

I guess there's nothing wrong with running 2.35's on an XC hardtail. They'd give you more cushion and grip better...

Your weight concern makes me wanna say that you'd be happier with the 2.1's though.

One of my riding buds is a crappy line-picker and pinches DH sections all the time. I put my old Stick-E 2.35's on his Fisher Tarpon and he is 100% happier with the extra cushion/traction/flat protection. He really isn't concerned with weight though...his HT is 36lbs.

When you get them installed and hate them...don't get pissed off at me!

(kidding...you will like them)

Holy Crap!! I just googled the Speed King 2.3". No wonder you're washing out. Those look like WalMart tires, haha.

Not your direction... The Nev's seem to always win the BF opinion polls. If I didn't already have a basement full of bike tires I might add them to the collection too.

Good to hear that.

I'm still loving mine.

Did you get the Stick-E's or DTC's?

I got my bike with Nevgal 1.95s on front and back. They didn't corner as well as I would have liked. I put Fire XC Pro 2.1 (Japanese factory) on the back, and the combo has been great. However, the Nevegal is in need of replacent. it's the first time I wore out a front faster than a rear tire!

A good Nevegal clone is Panaracer's Rampage (https://www.panaracer.com/mtb.php). I have 2.35 Rampage up front and 2.1 Fire XC Pro (Japanese with 127 tpi) in back. Great combo.

My Michelin Mountain X'Tremes are performing great. Anyone have any experience with these tires? I like them as much as my old WTB Velociraptors.
